Flowers for this still life project were not perfect. They were seasonal, sourced locally from private gardens, local streets, markets and parks, and were everyday, modest and humble blooms. The Japanese philosophy of Wabi sabi inspired image compositions. Wabi Sabi refers to qualities such as persistence, humility, asymmetry and imperfection, and involves appreciating and taking inspiration from nature. It also implies being grateful for things that already exist. It encourages one to be calm and happy, and embrace the peace and tranquility in everyday life.
